Firm Expands Role
in Strategic Security
Planning After 9/11

Before 9/11 security planning was something corporate America did to combat the more conventional types of crime that could be committed against them by either their own employees, or by outsiders. Since then, the world has changed and so has security planning, taking on a new dimension and urgency for many organizations. People feel more vulnerable in general and as a consequence, security has become a significant part of our daily lives not only where we work, but where we live and play, as well.

For Security Resources Group, the new emphasis has meant expanding its already well established niche in the security field. "We were already involved in strategic security planning and risk assessment for many of our clients," says Fred Miller, President and Founder of the ten year old firm, . . . "so it was a lateral step for us to develop the other pieces we needed and make them available to our clients."

Since the Homeland Security initiative, insurance carriers, as well as government and law enforcement have been promoting strategic security planning in the private sector. "But while people safety is by far, the most compelling and important issue, it is not the only one. Mitigation, response, recovery, business continuity and potential liability that could arise from security deficiencies and collateral damage, are of great concern too."

What makes Miller's firm stand out in a marketplace over-populated with self-proclaimed experts, salesmen turned consultants and Johnny Come Latelys are the credentials, experience and knowledge level of the firm and of the people it uses. Yet, Miller admits, SRG is not everything to everyone. "We do not have all the answers. No one does . . . not even the government, and companies and property owners should be very cautious about those that say they do."

As a small firm, SRG staffs by project needs and specializations required. It is an extremely efficient method; it saves resources and overhead costs, which in turn, can be passed on to their client. Says Miller, "we believe bigger is not necessarily better; smarter is."

Being independent and vendor neutral, also can translate into significant dollar savings for their clients. Because they do not recommend what they also happen to sell, clients get to see alternative solutions, so they are often able to do more with the budget they have.

Miller himself is an ASIS Board Certified Protection Professional [CPP] and holds a variety of credentials and certifications in the security field. He has more than 30 years experience in security and has served in a variety of security management positions, some of which for Fortune 500 companies. The result, is not only an exhaustive knowledge of security, but of the business tradeoffs and corporate culture which makes Security Resources Group unique among its competitors.
